The EOP Study Formula

1. To achieve an A or a 4.0 GPA at a research institution most professors expect you to study anywhere from 47 to 59 hours per week on average.

The norm study ratio is 3:1:  (3 hours of study time per (1) class units)

5 units per class x 3 classes = 15 units

15 units x 3 hours of study per (1) unit = 45 hours of study

45 + 2 hours = 47 hours per week = A

2. To achieve a B or higher you should study a minimum of 32-37 hours per week on average.  Ratio 2:1

5 units per class x 3 classes = 15 units

15 units x 2 hours of study per (1) unit = 30 hours of study

30 hours of study + 2 hours = 32 hours per week = B

3. As professional in academia, we realized that the average student(s) works twenty plus hours per week to sustain themselves and for many of these students they are limited by the number of hours they are able to study.  Some will put in as little as 15-19 hours per week to maintain a C average.  While some students based on their study skills are able to pull a C+ or higher GPA.  Ratio 1:1

5 units per class x 3 class = 15 units

15 units x 1 hour of study per (1) unit = 15 hours of study

15 hours of study + 2 hours = 17 hours per week = C

What if scenario: The number of hours a person should study at a research institution.

•           17 units x 3 hours study per (1) unit =51 hours of study +2 = 53 hours of study per week = A

•           17 units x 2 hours per (1) unit =34 hours of study +2 = 36 hours of study per week = B

•           17 units x 1 hour per (1) unit = 17 hours of study +2 = 19 hours of study per week = C

5 units per class x 3 class = 15 units x 1 hour of study per (1) unit = 15 hours of study + 2 hours = 17 hours per week = C
