    Juan Ruiz transferred from De Anza College as a Karl S. Pister Scholar and double-majored in Philosophy and Critical Race & Ethnic Studies from UC Santa Cruz in Spring of 2017. He is an MIT PIKSI Boston Allain Locke Fellow that has maintained active engagement in the Philosophy Department and Undocumented Student Services at EOP, through the duration of his undergraduate education. Involvement in extracurricular activities at UCSC include serving as a High School Ethics Bowl Coach for schools in Watsonville, San Jose, and Santa Cruz, CA; and co-authoring the AB540 Emergency Fund for Undergraduate and Graduate Students. In the Spring of 2017, Ruiz was invited to join the Phi Beta Kappa Academic Honors Society and began serving as a Graduate Student Mentor for EOP the summer of the same year. Ruiz will begin his Master's in Philosophy at UCSC in the Fall of 2017. His work will focus on expanding the conversation dealing with issues of diversity and inclusiveness particularly with public philosophy. Juan Ruiz has ambitions of pursuing a doctoral program upon the completion of this master’s.
