I decided to take an opportunity and become an IMAP mentor because I wanted to see the other side of the mentor/mentee relationship. I, myself was an IMAP mentee Freshman year because I struggled transitioning into a college setting, but luckily IMAP reached out and gave me the opportunity to learn how to succeed in this new environment. Now that I am a mentor it brings me joy to know that I am equipped with resources that can help students struggling academically and socially succeed, which is the sole purpose of this program.

I chose to be an IMAP peer mentor because I want to support those who feel that they do not have a place at this university. Every EOP student deserves to be at UCSC and should be given the appropriate resources to thrive on campus. I hope to build confidence and strength in my peers.

Hello! I’m from San Diego, I love all things under the sun, Steinbeck and Vonnegut, and having a warm cup of coffee. I greatly enjoy and appreciate working here because I feel a part of the constant cycle of support and empowerment to encourage students to keep fighting for a higher education. I hope to continue serving students and building a strong sense of belonging through shared experiences and coffee.

Sociology and LALS Double Major / Senior / She, Her, Hers

I’ve always enjoyed helping people out, but struggled when it came to advocating for myself. As a college student it can be difficult to ask for help, specially if you do not know where to start. Therefore, I decided to work as an IMAP mentor to help assist students find the resources that they need in order to succeed at the university, and to encourage them to not be afraid to ask for help. This leadership position will not only allow me to help others with their academic and social success, but it will also be a way to strengthen my communication skills and grow as a leader.
