Greetings EOP students! I am very excited to serve as the Interim Director of EOP. I have dedicated my professional life to push for educational equity for students with minoritized identities. I have done this in educational spaces for the last 10 years, working at non-profits, private educational organizations, UC Riverside, University Hawai'i at Mānoa, and the last four years here at UCSC. I am a nerd, and more specifically a Black Nerd or Blerd) at heart and I love history and to watch movies and tv shows, and especially if the source material is comics and graphic novels. I look forward to continuing to support your ongoing success at the university, please feel free to reach out to me if you encounter barriers on campus and in life, and I am happy to partner with you to resolve them as best as I can.

Growing up as half-Japanese and half-Mexican, I have the opportunity to live in Japan for six years, in Mexico for eight years, and in the United States (current). The transitions were challenging, but I had the honor to connect to my roots by living in three countries, learning the languages, and understanding the cultures. Form Japanese being my primary language, I had to learn Spanish at the age of seven and learn English at the age of sixteen. Upon arriving in the United States at the age of sixteen, some people did not believe I will be graduating from high school because I was already behind in classes and my language barriers. However, I was determined. I am now proud to say that I graduated from the University of California, Santa Cruz, with a Bachelor's Degree in Environmental Studies. As a first generation college graduate, I am passionate in supporting students succeed in their academic, personal, and professional journey. Please know that EOP is here to root for you and grow with you! Lastly, two fun fact about me, I love indoor plants and have 100+ plants in my house. I also love creating illustrations! You can check them out @artbyamig on IG. Feel free to reach out (agonza82@ucsc.edu) if you are interested in connecting or learning more! I am looking forward to connecting with you.
