    EOP STEM Counselor / (He/Him/His)

UCSC Class of 18' Computer Science B.A

    Baskin Engineering Excellence Scholars program

My name is Danay Weldegabriel and I go by the pronouns He/Him/His, currently serving as one of the EOP STEM Counselors. My focus is primarily on working with Engineering students and I oversee the Baskin Engineering Excellence Scholars program. With COVID aside, my office is normally located on the third floor of Baskin Engineering and I also have an office at Rachel Carson college where I’m housed once a week. I’m a UCSC alum, graduated from Oakes college in 2018 with a degree in Computer Science. I’m originally born in Ethiopia and raised in Oakland California for my teenage years. I’m a HUGE soccer fan, I love playing, watching and coaching. Aside from that, I just like to keep things simple and tend to enjoy the little things in life. I’m very passionate about serving my community and passing down my knowledge and experience and paying it forward! It has been a pleasure and true honor to be able to work with the EOP community. I'm constantly looking for ways to learn, grow and improve myself so working with students has provided me with such privilege. If anyone wants to chat about my experience as a student, athlete or a working professional please feel free to connect with me! My office phone number is (831) 459-1604 or via email at dweldega@ucsc.edu

    EOP STEM Counselor / (She/Her/Hers)

    B.A., Chemistry, UC Santa Cruz

    EOP STEM Transfer Program

I am a UCSC Alum with a Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry. I decided to take on the position as an EOP STEM Counselor because as a Latina, first-generation, foster youth, EOP Bridgee and UCSC Alumni, I feel that I am an excellent proponent of sharing resources that are available on campus and provide enough guidance to help students in STEM achieve their educational and career goals. And if there is something I am unaware of, I actively work with the students to find out more information. I do my best to implement a growth mindset environment, instill self-efficacy, and provide a sense of belonging with all the students that I meet. Fun facts about me are that I bike to work every day, except on rainy days, and I occasionally go on 40-mile bike rides and slowly working my way up to 75-miles. My absolute favorite holiday is Halloween, and I’m a huge Disney fan. My hobbies include watching horror movies, dancing, cooking, traveling, watching baseball & football games, and spending time with my cat named Tiger.

  • Audrey Huerta

  • Audrey Huerta

    EOP STEM Counselor / (She/Her)

B.A., Legal Studies & Literature, UC Santa Cruz

My name is Audrey; I, like many of you, was a first-generation college student at UCSC coming from a historically under-resourced community. My experiences as a DACA college applicant have made me a passionate advocate for student agency and success. As an EOP STEM Counselor, I am committed to being a resource, by providing holistic support and empathy to Engineering and PBSci students while empowering them to become leaders in their own right.

A little bit more about me: I was born in Sonora, MX, and was raised in the San Fernando Valley before relocating to San Jose. I’m a huge fan of mythology, especially Greek and Roman but I know some Egyptian myths too. I love reading about mystical, magical worlds, and some poetry. I have a 6-year-old pup, named Percy and live with a giant Goldendoodle named Kenobi both of who I am obsessed with.
