CURRICULUM
VITAE & RESUME
|
The
curriculum vitae (CV) and resume are essential documents that
organize your skills
and experiences in order to demonstrate
your scholarly achievements. A CV is often required
for those applying to graduate or professional programs,
employment with international firms, or when promoting
oneself within professional and academic fields*. From
the Latin meaning "course of one's life," a curriculum
vitae includes not only education and experiences but also
publications (books, magazines, journals, and other media),
certifications, licenses, grants, professional affiliations,
awards, honors, presentations, and courses where you were
either the TA or the instructor. Anything relevant
to your industry is appopriate content for a CV. Unlike
resumes, it is common for a CV to be three to ten pages
long. A resume outlines career objectives, education,
skills/accomplishments, and work experience.
*While you may not need to
submit your CV to complete a graduate school application, it
is a helpful organizational tool for requesting letters of
recommendation.
