How do I choose my major?
One should choose a major that complements your personal interest, likes, passion,
and curiosities.
How do I get involved with on campus organizations?
You can get involved on campus through
a number of venues: intramural sports, OPERS classes or through
student organizations on campus. You can visit the
East Field House for more information on intramural sports
and OPERS classes. You can also visit Student Organization
Advising Resources (SOAR) for a listing of brief descriptions
and contacts of the student orgs on campus. The SOAR office
is located near the bookstore.
I am having trouble in some of my classes, is there any tutoring
available, and how much does it cost?
Yes, there are many tutoring programs available. For more information on costs, please contact the
respective centers.

for specific listings, contact your department.
Is it true that for your major classes, you have to get at least a B
for it to count towards your major or you will have to retake the class?
Each department had different requirements for the major. For more information on

Is it better to do GE's first or major requirements first?
As an incoming freshman you are expected to take your General Education courses
and any introduction courses to your major that is required.
What are the dance classes that are offered here and what are some
of the dance organizations that are here on campus?
LOS MEJICAS
Los Mejicas strives to present the Mexican culture through education and dance. The organization
is open to people of all culture backgrounds, providing the opportunity to explore and experience
the rich culture of Mexico through dance. Los Mejicas serves as a benefit and support group for

Filipino Student Association (FSA)
Students who are interested in participating in the Asian American Pacific Islander cultural dance groups,

Be sure to visit your department adviser first and then your academic preceptor at your college.

Where can I get a map of the campus, and are there any
suggestions of how to get from one place to another?
Campus maps are circulated through the campus. For a quick reference guide you can
pick up a campus map from any UCSC shuttle driver,
at you assign college administration office, at the UCSC Bay tree bookstore and Transportation and
Parking Services (TAPS) as you are applying for a campus-parking permit.
Who can tell me what grades I need to get in order to satisfy my major?
The University of California, Santa Cruz has a plethora of advisers: Department Adviser(s)
within your major; College Preceptor(s) & Adviser(s) assigned to your college; and the
EOP Academic Counselors. Any of these professional individuals can assist you in planning and
implementing a strategy for a successful academic career at UCSC. However, B or better works all
the time.
